3rd ROCK-IT Project Meeting Yields Productive Outcomes

The 3rd ROCK-IT project meeting took place with great success on April 16-17, 2024, hosted on the campus of partner institute Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) in Adlershof.

Gathering over 60 colleagues from partner institutes DESY, HZB, HZDR, and KIT; the event provided a valuable opportunity for collaborative thinking, knowledge exchange, and catching up on the latest developments in their fields.

Launched by a welcoming speech by Edgar Weckert, director of the Photon Science department at DESY, the meeting continued with the work package leaders’ presentations on their groups’ progress, upcoming plans, and needs. Followed by discussions on the developing flowchart and internal meetings of the work packages, the participants also enjoyed an all-together dinner while getting the chance to exchange ideas and socialize in a casual ambiance.

The second day of the meeting started with four separate breakout sessions titled “Training XAFS for AI”, “Workflow and Flowchart”, “Experiment Database”, and “User Roles”. After the 45-minute sessions, the project members got together to present their reports on their internal discussions. The meeting ended with an informative tour of BESSY II, the third-generation synchrotron radiation source that produces extremely bright X-ray light at the heart of the HZB campus in Adlershof, Berlin.
