Environmental Benefits
On a global scale, Germany and many other countries are undergoing a critical juncture in their energy policies. Hence, reducing the dependence on both fossil and nuclear fuels and transitioning towards sustainable energy sources - notably green hydrogen - stands as a crucial step on this path. Catalysis research plays a key role in this energy transition, and is pivotal in improving and developing catalysts for energy, green chemistry, biotechnology, and transportation. The economic benefits of developing key catalysis technologies cannot be understated, not only in terms of direct benefit to the domestic economy but also through the potential export market for novel German clean energy technology.
Furthermore, the automation and remote access of in-situ and operando experiments will significantly enhance the resilience of user operations addressing travel and pandemic-related constraints, while reducing the CO2 footprint by minimizing travel requirements.
